Here is the complete Amtrak train timetable effective May 31, 1997
It will unpack into a subdirectory containing all the schedules. Links
between schedules are relative, so they don't need an outside connection.
Links to Amtrak's official site (www.amtrak.com) and to other schedule and
information sites (like connecting commuter trains) will work only when you
are on the net.

To browse individual schedules, see:
http://www.libertynet.org/~dvarp/Amtrak/ (Philadelphia--home site)
http://www.mcs.net/~dsdawdy/Amtrak/ (Chicago--mirror)
http://www.transitinfo.org/Amtrak/ (Berkeley--mirror)

These schedules are unofficial, but are authorized by
Amtrak (Thanks, Amtrak). They have been checked carefully (Thank you, Brad
Fuller), but neither Amtrak, DVARP, nor the volunteers are responsible for
errors. Subject to change without notice. Official schedule information
is available from Amtrak at www.amtrak.com, but some users find our info
faster or more convenient.

NEW! at the official Amtrak pages is online reservations and fare
information. Get this plus train arrivals at reservations.amtrak.com.
Visit and enjoy. Do please be aware that booking of special plans like the
Explore America Fare is _not_ available online at any site. For such
trips, your travel agent can help you best.

This marks the fourth year for this all-volunteer project, created by DVARP
and done with the help of dozens of people from the railroad newsgroups.
It takes a lot of work to keep them going, so please see the about file and
thank the people listed there.
(made with Macintosh!)

OK to redistribute on the Info-Mac CD
If you have a page or a BBS and want to make these schedules available to
the public, please link to one of the first three sites. This is important
so that nobody will be serving outdated schedules. Please contact me for
permission to redistribute the complete packages.

Once again, thanks to all our volunteers, and we'll see you on the train.

 backup_by_stuffit_2.1e/AppleScript (Freeware)

* This is an AppleScript script that will make a stuffed backup file by
StuffIt LIte 3.5 or later and automatically replace its content with
modified files.

* If you make a backup file into a floppy disk, the disk will be soon
full with files. But if backup files are stuffed, you can save backup
files almost twice as many.

* Once you choose which folder to backup into which disk, and let this
make a stuffed backup file in the disk, only by double-clicking,this
will choose files which in the original folder are modified after the
modification date of the backup file ,and replace these files in the
backup file.

* Ver2.0 made it possible to include folders in the folder to backup.

* In Ver2.1 when you use "backup_hd_by_stuffit", new files or folders
newly added to the folder to back up will be also stuffed and copied
to the archive folder in the disk instantly.

*  System requirement: MacOS7.5 or later,AppleScript1.1

* You need a registered version of StuffIt Lite 3.5 or later.

Chipmunk Basic (version 3.5.2, 97-Apr)

Chipmunk Basic is a freeware old-fashioned Basic Interpreter, accelerated
for the PowerMac, yet still compatible with old 68k Macs running System 6.
Features include support for a simple sprite graphics engine, sound,
MacinTalk speech, MacTCP, AppleScript, Drag&Drop and OOP programming.

Every personal computer should come with a simple, easy to learn, programming
language. Chipmunk Basic was my contribution for the very first PowerMacs.
This version is a both bug fix and new feature release. It is still free
for educational and non-commercial distribution and use (but only for those
who don't believe that using the BASIC language causes brain damage. :-)

Chipmunk Basic only comes with a man page and a quick reference to the
Mac specific functions. The language is mostly compatible with books on
programming in BASIC that were written between 1978 and 1990.

Permission is granted to include this version of Chipmunk Basic on CD-ROM
compendiums of the Info-Mac and UMich archives. Please replace older
versions of Chipmunk Basic that are in the archives with this version.
Please make sure that any redistribution includes the documentation.

Please send bug reports to <mailto:rhn@nicholson.com>. Updates and docs
are at the Chipmunk Basic Home Page <http://www.nicholson.com/rhn/basic/>.

Shortened version history:
Version 3.3.2: fixed sprite turn bug, added Quicktime midi sound
Version 3.3.7: fixed integer rounding; added "COM3:" to use serial driver
Version 3.4.0: fixed default voice in say, input eof bug, pref file bug
Version 3.4.5: fixed bugs in hex$, moveto, button clear, error msgs.
Version 3.4.8: added matrix ops, changed precedence of "not" operator,
fixed memory leaks, fixed nested if-then & select-case bugs
Version 3.5.2: fixed bbedit bbxt. fixed print using. fixed file save.

CrystalMaker features real-time, mouse-driven rotation, and interactive

This is a demonstration version of CrystalMaker 2.1.3; it is a fat binary:
runs native on Power Macintosh and on your regular Mac. This program will
read from any CrystalMaker-2 file, and we've included a selection of

This is the latest AppleScript version of Delete Web Caches -- in
AppleScript text format. It will empty Netscape, Internet Explorer,
Anarchie, Fetch and other caches from your hard disk. Compiled as a
run-only application and used with OSA Menu (available elsewhere on
Info-Mac), it's convenient to use after each session on the Internet.
(Users might want to disable the "empty trash" feature until they've
used it a couple of times and know it won't delete any unnecessary
files.) I've uploaded this in text format so that users can study the
code and add or delete items to configure it to their individual

Subject: [*] Email Merge 1.3

Email Merge is a program for creating mailings of individualised eMail
messages. It takes a database of information, and an eMail message, and
merges the two to create customised eMail messages.

It can be used for invoicing, sales, debt recovery, student grading, and
even personal messages. The potential uses are endless.

To use Email Merge, simply import or create a database, create or paste
in an eMail message, insert placeholders to be replaced by database
information, preview the results, and send off the eMail messages.

Version 1.3 adds the ability to include attachments, and to save merge
configurations as documents for later restoring.

Email Merge is shareware, and requires AppleScript, and either Claris
Emailer or Qualcomm Eudora. These are freely available on the Internet.

Excalibur is a Macintosh spelling checker for LaTeX documents. You can
optionally turn off LaTeX parsing, so Excalibur is a good plain text
spelling checker too.

Features include:

- Excalibur will offer suggestions for how to correct a word.

- Excalibur can spell check the clipboard. This makes it a good spelling
checker for any text based application such as Alpha, BBEdit, or Eudora.

- You will need System 6.0.5 or higher to run Excalibur. It will run on
any Macintosh from a Mac Plus on up.

- Excalibur is free.

- British, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Norwegian and Spanish
dictionaries are also available. (See the Excalibur home page.)

- It runs in native mode on a PowerPC. This is a fat binary.

- For more information, visit the Excalibur home page:

http://www.eg.bucknell.edu/~excalibr/excalibur.html

Version 2.4 has a good number of small improvements and bug fixes.

Version 2.4 has improved suggestions, a check box that instructs the
open file dialog to display just .tex and .ltx files, more conformance
to AGA (Apple Grayscale Appearance) guidelines, better handling of
German babel conventions, and better support of the Catalan language.
Modal dialogs are now moveable.

There are several bug fixes too.

Subject: [*] Gibbon's "Decline & Fall of the Roman Empire"

This archive contains the text of the "History of the Decline and Fall
of the Roman Empire" by Edward Gibbon (1782), with notes by H.H. Milman,
in setext format.

The text is in 8-bit Mac encoding, without line endings: a carriage
return indicates the end of a paragraph or end of a line of verse.

The original electronic text, posted on America Online by David Reed,
contains a few small omissions; typographic errors and defective
capitalisation were corrected only in chapter titles.

Setext is a slightly enhanced text format. It can be read with any text
editor/word processor, but looks best when viewed with a
setext-compatible browser, such as Akif Eyler's EasyView
<info-mac/text/easy-view-262.hqx>.

includes:

Polished Gold 1.5 is a Kaleidoscope Color Scheme. To use it, you must
have the Kaleidoscope 1.5 control panel installed (this color scheme
will not work with Kaleidoscope 1.0). Kaleidoscope is shareware by Greg

Desktop Gold is an 1152x870 pixel desktop picture for your Mac, which
can easily be scaled down to other desktop sizes (1024x768, 832x624, or
640x480).

Gold Cursor is an extension which will turn your ordinary black cursor
into a golden cursor.

Gold Folders are replacement system folders for the Mac OS, including a
shiny gold trash can.

Gold Patterns are five golden patterns that can be drag-and-dropped into
the open window of the Desktop Patterns control panel.

You may use and distribute this file freely, as long as the entire
folder and contents are kept together, and this "Read Me" file is

Subject: [*] Kinga 1.0

Kinga is a gambling game with an Egyptian theme. It is your goal to win
enough money to build a Pyramid which consists of six construction
levels each costing 1500 credits. When completed the secrets of a
Pyramid will be revealed to you!! The game is split into three different
stages - The Begin Stage, The Pyramid Gamble Stage and finally, The
Sphinx Stage. Credits won can be transfered from one stage to the other.
The game is lost if at any time you run out of credits. Watch out for
the gremlins and demon !!!!!

I wrote Kinga originally for myself to provide an exciting substitute
for real gambling machines and it has already saved me a lot of money
!!!! The program chooses reel and pyramid positions at random.

Subject: [*] LibraryCataloger1.0.2 track books and articles

Library Cataloger is an application to help you keep track of your personal
library, and to help you create bibliographies for papers, reports, and
other documents which include references. Library Cataloger requires system
7 or higher and both a PowerPC native and a non-PowerPC application is
included. No Floating-point unit is required.

This an application which I created to fill a need of my own. I
consistently find myself forgetting which papers I have photocopies of.
Also, just like everyone else who has to make bibliographies for papers, I
hate having to go through my papers to get all the information required to
complete the bibliographic entries. This application will help you keep
track of the books and papers you have, and it will help you make
bibliographies when you need them by exporting bibliographic data in plain
text or LaTex format.

Version 1.0.2 has several bug fixes which make it much more stable. The
user interface has been slightly redesigned to make it easier to use on
smaller screens. Registration can now be completed using credit cards.

This file should replace LibraryCataloger101.hqx --

I give my permission for Library Cataloger to be included on the Info-Mac
CD-ROM.

Subject: [*] Pattern Manager 1.5.1

There was a small but significant bug in the last version of PatMan that
I uploaded. Pattern Rotater's filetype was 'APPE' instead of 'appe'. If
you don't want to spend the time downloading PatMan 1.5.1, you can
simply change it's file type using ResEdit or any of the other file-type
changers out there.

Pattern Manager--PatMan--displays patterns with their names in a
user-sizable grid, installs patterns into the System File, and sets the
utilities pattern (which other desktop pattern installers don't do). It
fully supports drag and drop between files, the Scrapbook, the Finder,
and any other program that supports drag and drop. It has the best PICT
importer available, and, remarkable for a desktop pattern manager, it
has resizeable windows. It also has a nifty pattern information window
and can change the background pattern periodically.

Announcing QuickNailer 1.2, the media *preview in bulk* and web site
construction tool.

Do you have more images than you can comfortably manage? Or, do you need
an easy and flexible way to make image tables or image indexes for your web
pages?

QuickNailer gracefully combines an elegant and convenient image thumbnailer
and contact-sheet maker with a flexible and complete tool for producing
HTML image tables and image indexes with linked pages.

QuickNailer's responsive, uncluttered user interface facilitates:
Importing a few or a few thousand digital media files (including Photoshop,
JPEG, GIF, QuickTime Movies, etc.) by dragging-and-dropping files, folders,
volumes, servers, CD-ROMs, aliases; Media previewing (as variable-size
thumbnails displayed with user-selected image information, individual
images, slide shows, cell animation, tiled images [optional text or image
overlay], all at any magnification level); Searching and ranking keyword
relevancy (using file name, comments, folder name); File maintenance (edit
file name or comments, put file in trash, launch file using any
application, open file's folder). In addition, QuickNailer generates fully
functional web sites or HTML image tables. QuickNailer includes an online
hyper-linked help system and tutorial. The application is PowerPC
accelerated and has been rigorously tested.

I would like to thank QuickNailer users around the world for their helpful
suggestions. These recommendations encouraged me to implement many new
features and improvements including: Keyword relevancy searching and
ranking; Support of file comments; File import progress and abort; User
selectable caption font; Support for Adobe Illustrator file with 'PICT'
preview; Internationalized sort, numerical formatting, and word breaking;
User interface improvements; HTML generation improvements; bug fixes; and
much more.

Please see the Softwhir web site <http://www.amug.org/~sbaber> for more
information.

SPEED DEMON: 3D Car Racing with Carnage for the Power Macintosh

Speed Demon boasts many cutting-edge features:

-Hi-resolution 3D texture mapped environments with a polygon-based 3D
engine -Continuous network play with up to five players over AppleTalk
or TCP/IP connections -Single player competitions against artificially
intelligent opponents -Two play modes: a race across the country and a
demolition derby -Weaponry! Blow your opponents out of your way with
missiles, guns, photons, mines, oil shooters, and really big bowling
balls -3D positional sound effects -16-track 44kHz stereo musical score
-Atmospheric effects such as fog and snow -Direct support of the
Thrustmaster Formula T2, FCS, WCS, and CH Products devices. -Ambient
objects such as hot air balloons, construction sites, road obstacles,
wildlife, and airplanes

Race across the country on Interstate 90 in Speed Demon's track mode.
While you try to complete each of the states the game passes through
within your time limits, you'll have to deal with sharp curves, enemy
cars blocking your way, obstacles in the road, and annoyances such as
incoming missiles and land mines dropped by your opponents. Or try
demolition derby mode, and get thrown in an arena with five
heavily-armed cars as you attempt to be the last survivor.

The shareware download is limited to two players in network games, and
consists of one state on Interstate 90 and a demolition derby arena.
Users who register for $20 will be able to download five additional
states, and unlock five-player net games.

Screenshots are available at http://www.cerbdev.com/mac/speeddemon/

Speed Demon requires a Power Macintosh with 16MB of free RAM, and Open
Transport 1.1 or newer is required for network games.

This program will update Spike version 1.0.4 to version 1.0.5. Registered
users will not need to re-enter their registration key.

Spike, by YAV Interactive Media (http://www.yav.com) is the first
batch-processing data-spike detection and analysis tool for QuickTime
movies. Spike solves the stutter and glitch playback problems of CD-ROM and
Web-based QuickTime files. Given a batch of QuickTime movies, Spike
determines which among them will provide optimal playability from a range
of deployment platforms and media. Offering many of the features of Apple's
long-discontinued MovieAnalyzer, Spike is compatible with QuickTime 2.5 and
beyond.

Current QuickTime compression software reports the average data rate of
files; many people mistakenly use this figure to make decisions about the
suitability of compressed video for their playback targets. A QuickTime
movie can have a perfectly acceptable average data rate while still
containing data spikes that will seriously disrupt playback on any machine.
Spike identifies these problems and offers a suite of options for
controlling their detection. Other features include detailed data-rate
graphs, "Spike Alerts" and reports in frames-per-second and SMPTE, several
preview options, and batch processing.

Subject: [*] StartScreenUp 1.0J - Japanese Version

This is the Japanese version of the StartScreenUp package.

The StartScreenUp1.0 extension is a little INIT to reload the
StartupScreen. This extension has been written to get rid of the password
dialogbox of "DiskGuard" or "FileGuard" by Highware cross over the
StartupScreen after the password has been entered.

All MacintoshOS based computers are able to show a StartupScreen during the
whole startup process. To create a StartupScreen you need a picture which
must be saved in a "PICT" Resource with ID 0 (use JPEGView, Grafikconverter,
PhotoShop, ClarisWorks, etc ノ), must be located in the systemfolder and
named "StartupScreen". Normally the Mac will show only one StartupScreen.
With StartScreenUp1.0 you can even view a second picture!

StartScreenUp1.0 patches no traps and after the boot process it uninstalls
itself so nothing remains in your system which could slow it down. Also no
compatibility problem should occur.

StartScreenUp1.0 is released free to let you know about CopyPaste, the
productivity tool for your Mac.

Subject: [*] The Ultimate Wedding & Honeymoon Planner (Vers. 3.0)

Hello, Thanks for downloading "The Ultimate Wedding & Honeymoon
Planner". This is version 3.0, and I have added many new layouts to the
previous version. Apart from the new layouts, the main changes in this
version are that all "Helper Layouts" (those that don't include guest's
names) are separated into their own files. This prevents the user from
accidentally deleting records in a different layout. Also, I have
improved report printing capabilities. This template will make the
planning of your big day a great deal easier, with it you will easily be
able to take care of the scores of details that are involved with
planning any wedding, large or small. The previous version of this
template was included in a recent Claris CD called "Simply Powerful
Tools For The Press". This CD was published by the Claris public
relations department in April '97, and sent to approximately three
thousand members of the media worldwide. This planner is designed to be
used with Claris Filemaker Pro 3.0, either Mac or Windows versions and
works best with a color monitor. I hope that you find it useful.
