Subject: How to FTP Mach sources Author: Mary Thompson Date: Jul 7, 1993 ------------------------------------------- Mach 3.0 sources can be anonymously ftp'ed from CMU as follows: ftp mach.cs.cmu.edu or 128.2.209.192 Name: anonymous Password: @ cd src At this point standard ftp commands will work. There are several information files there and several subdirectories The Mach.info file gives a description of the current status of Mach3 development work. The INDEX file gives a brief description of the source file organization. FTP.inst is this file. The Mach 3.0 micro-kernel sources are in the mkernel directory The VERSION file contains the version number of the kernel sources in the tar files. Check it to see when you need to get a new copy of the sources. default.tar.Z (2871K) The machine independent code i386.tar.Z (1134K) i386 specific code mips.tar.Z (376K) DecStation 3100/5000 specific code luna88k.tar.Z (445K) Omron Luna88k specific code The subdirectory src contains all the individual files which can be ftp'ed separately if desired. They are indentical to the contents of the tar files. The end of the file src/MERGE_HISTORY describes the latest changes. The tools needed to build the kernel sources are in the buildtools directory buildtools.tar.Z (593K) The ODE version of make and friends gcc.tar.Z (6543K) gcc 2.3.3 The subdirectory src contains all the individual files which can be ftp'ed separately if desired. They are indentical to the contents of the tar files. The end of the file src/MERGE_HISTORY describes the latest changes. There are a number of other source files and a few executables which have been put there by request. See the INDEX file for a current listing of what is available. The files use relative pathnames and are designed to be extracted in the same directory. Use a standard tar extraction command such as: /usr/ucb/uncompress -c default.tar.Z | tar -xvf - If you have any questions about this distribution, they should be directed to mach@cs.cmu.edu, but please read all the information documents first. If you are having trouble with ftp be sure that you are connecting to the right machine (mach.cs.cmu.edu 128.2.209.192) and that you are doing a "cd /usr/mach/public" or "cd /usr/mach/public/src" command before you try to retrieve any files. The /usr/mach/public directory contains some other subdirectories that might be of interest. See /usr/mach/public/FAQ/ftp.general for more information.
