This program is supplied "as is" and without any warranties. The author declines any responsability in the use of this software. --- This is the 4.X beta of dxnet cluster under windows 95/98/Me/NT/2K. This document has been wrote on Jan 2001 for the beta version 4.0 The installation can be simple. 1- Overview Dxnet for windows is a portage of the dos/linux version under windows. The beta test version doesn't include any graphic user interface (GUI). BTW, even if it starts in a MSDOS-like window, it is a real 32 bits programs. Futur developments of DxNet for windows won't have any window at all anyway. The console window which is opened with this version is just provided for beta testing. It can be use only to display the activity of the cluster. 2- Features DxNet for windows version 4.0 beta supports the major features of the linux version : - ax25 using the SV2AGW packet engine - fbbC/X/W client which is used (and needed) for sysop operations - TELNET for incoming and outgoing connections Note also that some features are not included yet : - extern commands (extcmd / syscmp) - ful2idx - SET/TIME SET/DATE - PURGMAIL PURGWWV PURGANN PURGDX 3- What do you need to run DxNet for windows ? You have to get the following couple of programs to be able to run DxNet for windows : a) The SV2AGW packet engine (AX25 interface), available for download at : http://www.raag.org/sv2agw/ b) The windows fbb client, available for download at : ftp://ftp.f6fbb.org/pub/f6fbb/distrib/linux/tools or if this site is too slow, you may try one of the following mirrors : ftp://ftp.lip6.fr/pub/hamradio/f6fbb/distrib/linux/tools ftp://ftp.funet.fi/pub/ham/packet/bbs/f6fbb/distrib/linux/tools ftp://ftp.pspt.fi/pub/ham/packet/bbs/f6fbb/distrib/linux/tools ftp://nazca.dokkyomed.ac.jp/pub/f6fbb/distrib/linux/tools 4- Installation a) Install and configure the SV2AGW packet engine ; AGW PE is a powerfull AX.25 Layer 2 Manager running under Windows 95/98/NT. And don't forgot to thanks George SV2AGW for his nice piece of code ! It takes only minutes to setup the SV2AGW packet engine. Please read the manual ! Remark 1 : Don't forgot to enable the winsock TCP/IP application interface (left clic on the AGW pe icon in the systray | Setup Interfaces) else DxNet won't be able to connect it ! Remark 2 : if you want to wire-connect AGW PE to an another computer via the COM ports (ie to connect it to a frontal node), you must shortcut the CTS/RTS pins else AGW PE will tell you that TNC is not present. Communication between AGW PE and DxNet is done using a TCP/IP socket. By defaut, AGW PE listens the port 8000. Please read the well explained manual provided with AGW PE to get more info about. b) Install and configure the fbb client. See the config example below (menu Config | Remote 1/2/3/4) : Configuration name : DxNet/LocalHost Host nale or address : localhost Port : 3287 (by default, dxnet listens this port) Callsign : F5MZN Password : MyPassword c) Install and configure Dxnet. For beginning, it can be very simple : - edit c:\Program Files\F5MZN\System\dxnet.cfg and set the callsign you want to run DxNet with in the SET/CALL row. You may also configure the TCP/IP port you want to be listened by DxNet for incoming telnet connections (ie SET/PORT inet:9000). - edit c:\Program Files\F5MZN\System\passwd.dat and add a line containing your callsign and the password you already defined in the fbbW client. That's just enough for the first time. You will have to create later the script files to connect to the cluster of your area (or via internet), databases, etc ... Please read the manual which is avaible on http://www.dxnet.free.fr 5- Run DxNet for windows Start the SV2AGW PE, then start DxNet. Note it doesn't matter to start DxNet before, but it won't be usable since AGW is active. Now you can connect to DxNet from either AX25 or TELNET. You may try a " TELNET localhost 9000 " (assuming DxNet is listening the port 9000). 6- Enter commands in the console To enter commands in the console, you must run the client (fbbW / LinFBB) and then connect to DxNet. After the connection is established, open the console window in the client. That's all. -- For any question, please subscribe to the dxnet mailing list (look at http://www.dxnet.free.fr) - you may also contact me at but remamber the time I use replying to the emails is lost for the DxNet developments. Source code of DxNet for windows will be available very soon. I'm using visual c++ but most part is common with both the dos and linux projects. In fact, just a couple of files are differents ! :-) And remamber that anybody who wants to join the very small development staff is always welcome ! Please enjoy ! 73, Olivier Le Cam f5mzn.
